Solektra International is a renewable energy company founded by Senegalese entrepreneur Karim Wade and part of the Akon Lighting Africa initiative launched in 2014. The company focuses on the development and deployment of solar energy solutions in Africa, particularly for rural electrification. Solektra has implemented solar electrification projects including solar street lighting, mini-grids and distributed solar systems across several African countries. Through the Akon Lighting Africa programme, thousands of solar streetlights and household solar systems have been installed since 2014.
