Globeleq is the leading independent power company in Africa, owned 70% by British International Investment (BII, UK's DFI) and 30% by Norfund (Norway's DFI). Since 2002, Globeleq has built a diverse portfolio of 1,850 MW across eight countries (as of March 2026), with 665 MW under construction and 2,000 MW+ in development. The 2024-2025 period saw major milestones: the 153 MW/612 MWh Red Sands BESS project in South Africa (Africa's largest standalone BESS); financial close on geothermal assets in Kenya (Menengai); completion of the 450 MW Temane gas plant in Mozambique; and entry into Zambia via the acquisition of Lunsemfwa Hydro (56 MW, 2026).
