Thika Power Limited is an independent power producer operating a heavy fuel oil (HFO) thermal power plant located in Thika, Kenya. The project was developed to support Kenya’s electricity supply during periods of capacity shortages. The Thika Power Plant has an installed capacity of 87 MW and reached commercial operation in 2014 under a power purchase agreement with Kenya Power. The plant forms part of Kenya’s thermal generation capacity used primarily as backup generation when hydropower output declines.
