Proton Energy Limited is a Nigerian independent power producer (IPP) developer founded in 2011 to develop and operate power plants across Sub-Saharan Africa, with a particular focus on Nigeria. The company was established by Oti Ikomi, a Nigerian infrastructure developer and former banking executive. Its flagship project is the Proton Delta Sunrise Project, a gas-fired combined cycle power plant under development in Sapele, Delta State (Nigeria). The project is planned in two phases with an initial capacity of 150 MW, expanding to 500 MW in Phase 2. Proton Energy has indicated that the plant is part of a broader development pipeline aiming to add up to 1,500 MW of installed generation capacity to Nigeria’s power grid.
