Electricity Generation Company of Malawi (EGENCO) is the state-owned company responsible for electricity generation in Malawi, spun off from ESCOM in 2016 as part of the country's power sector unbundling. The company operates Malawi's hydro power stations on the Shire River including Nkula, Tedzani and Kapichira, as well as diesel generation units, supplying power to the national transmission and distribution grid. EGENCO is developing solar and other renewable energy projects to diversify Malawi's energy mix and increase generation capacity. EGENCO was represented at Enlit Africa 2025.
