The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) is Kenya's independent statutory regulatory agency established under the Energy Act, 2019. It is responsible for the economic and technical regulation of electricity, renewable energy, upstream and downstream petroleum, natural gas, and coal sectors in Kenya, succeeding the former Energy Regulatory Commission. EPRA's mandate includes issuing licences, setting and reviewing energy tariffs, monitoring compliance and operational standards, protecting consumer and investor interests, and enforcing environmental and safety standards across the sector. The authority regulates key utilities such as Kenya Power, KenGen, and independent power producers, playing a central role in shaping Kenya's energy market and attracting investment into the country's growing renewable energy sector.
